The 20-page lawsuit out of Colorado claims the Uponor PEX piping, a popular product made for use in residential plumbing systems, can develop exterior microcracks due to the oxidizing process whereby the blue and red coloring-for cold and hot water lines, respectively-are added to the tubing. It's a shame the Uponor is being discontinued.New to ? Read our Newswire DisclaimerĪ proposed class action alleges blue- and red-colored cross-linked polyethylene tubing (PEX) made by Uponor is defective and prone to premature degradation, deterioration and failure. Please, let's figure out what is best for your home.

I'm only sharing that as professional input. If it makes a difference to you, if it were my home, and I had to choose between all options on the table, I would choose the tree and branch. If not, let's reconsider the original options presented. If you think this would be something of interest, we will do our best to get this done for your home. With that said, I am considering researching other plumbers to have in our business that would consider installing the Viega Manifold. In fact it is so much better, I have been completely unable to convince our plumbers to switch, even temporarily, to allow our customers other options while we phase the manifolds out. There is very little room for human error and is just a far better product. So it's clear: either the fitting is together or it is visibly not together. With Uponor PEX tubing, the plumber making the connections has to expand the pipe and fit it over the connector.

To explain further: If a human/plumber forgets to crimp a fitting/connection (they look the same crimped or not crimped) it can still pass air testing and then fail later. Viega uses the crimp style fittings and they are just not as fool proof. Uponor is superior and almost foolproof with the connections. The reason we didn't provide you with this option is because all of our plumbers use Uponor pipe and fittings. And since we know from the manufacturer that these have been discontinued, we know they won't get more in stock.Īnother option, that we didn't present to you, is a Viega Manifold a competing product from another manufacturer. We talked to customer service to make sure of this (as the website is misleading), and sure enough, they don't have any in stock and are not sure when/if they will have any. Unfortunately, if you go to buy the manifold from that website, it is actually out of stock. We have scoured the internet and all available resources in town, looking for such options and trying to get replacements for you and our other homeowners that are in the same predicament.

The house will be ~2700 sqft with half bath downstairs and 2 full baths upstairs (one of which would have 2 shower heads). I guess I'm just looking for advice on what the professionals around here think I should do. They've basically given us the options of pay a plumber to kind of recreate a manifold (+$1000), go to tree and branch instead of whatever you call it with a manifold (homeruns?) (-$500), or find a plumber that will use another brand like Viega. I thought I had found the manifold online, but my builder said they were out of stock when they called to see about it. Recently, our builder came to us and said that Uponor discontinued its plastic manifolds which our builder says their plumbers really like for the fitting system they use to connect to the pex tubing (some kind of expansion rather than crimping). My wife and are building a house (well other people are building it and we are paying for it).
